Gas Equipment & Inspections
General Welding Supplies have a fully trained team of qualified gas inspectors. We are able to give certified inspections on all types of gas equipment, gas installations and associated gas control products.
Health and Safety Executive has advised owners and users of oxy-fuel welding and cutting sets that written schemes of examination are not required. However, HSE emphasises that although gas welding sets are not considered to pose a risk from the the release of stored energy, they do pose a risk of fire or explosion if they are not assembled, operated, or maintained correctly.
Under the Health and Safety at Work Acy, employers and self-employed people need to take appropriate steps to ensure that such risks, particularly risks from inadequate maintenance, are properly controlled.
Maintenance
Maintenance of equipment is a requirement of the Pressue Systems Safety Regulations to ensure that equipment remains in a safe condition.
It is a legal requirement for the owner to ensure this is carried out. It is also strongly recommended that written records of maintenance are kept.
It is essential that maintenance as detailed in the BCGA CP 7 Guidance on Maintenance, taking into account manufacturers/suppliers recommendations, is carried out before use by operator, and at least annually. Please visit the BCGA website for more details on these requirements.
Annual maintenance shall be carried out by a suitably trained person. Such training will be formally recorded and include the following topics:
- Sufficient practical experience of oxy-fuel gas equipment.
- Theoretical knowledge of the functioning of the equipment, the properties of gases used, the potential defects and hazards which may occur, and their importance to the integrity and safety of the equipment.
